Understanding The Ketogenic Diet

The ketogenic diet or the keto diet has been making the rounds again for the past few years and has now become quite popular, in fact, you can find that many restaurants have a separate keto-friendly menu to accommodate those who might be on the diet as well. This is not really a new diet, it was actually first introduced around the 1920s by doctors as a diet plan for those who suffered from epilepsy and even diabetes.

It was later that this diet entered into our lives and has now taken over and become popular throughout many countries. Now, if you are familiar with the Keto diet or what is about, we will be discussing it below. Now, ketosis is the natural biological process where our body, mainly our metabolism, makes a shift and replaces burning glucose with burning fats as the primary source of fuel instead. This shift only happens when there is a lack of carbohydrates or sugar in our system. Usually, when we are eating carbohydrates, they are broken down to sugar or glucose which our metabolism uses to create energy and fuel us, and in the meantime, stores away the fat in our body for emergency use.

The keto diet is basically about completely cutting out carbs or restricting them to an absolute minimum while at the same time consuming high amounts of fat and protein. This way, our body naturally shifts towards ketosis and ends up burning the fats that are present in our body which helps us to lose weight. While your body will initially be upset at the lack of carbohydrates, you will, intime,  feel healthier and more energetic as well.
